approach

I practice Schema Therapy, an approach that blends the practical tools of CBT (a gold standard for reducing symptoms) with the depth of psychodynamic therapy (which looks at how past experiences shape present patterns). I consider myself a “professional pattern finder” (relational and internal patterns) for high-functioning, emotionally complex adults—that’s where I shine as a clinician. I want our work together to feel empowering, productive, and connected to your goals and values. My aim is to help you move toward greater self-actualization, resilience, and peace of mind.

My style is direct, goal-oriented, and collaborative. If you’ve tried therapy before and found it too slow, passive, or focused on venting without getting anywhere - this will feel different. I pride myself on being warm, nonjudgmental and appropriately lighthearted in our work together. I ask questions, give feedback, and won’t let you monologue your way through sessions. While “venting” can feel good in the short-term, long-term growth comes from noticing triggers and patterns, integrating these insights, and developing tools for how to move forward. I can’t change your boss or your mother-in-law…but I can help you explore why certain situations hit a nerve, and how you can respond with more confidence, clarity, and control. Clients describe me as honest but sensitive (living up to the “No BS Therapist” title) and easy to follow (no confusing therapy jargon).

Once we’ve been working together for a bit, I use a Schema Therapy questionnaire to help identify the specific patterns that drive your thoughts, feelings and behavior. These insights are an informative guide in our work together. With some clients, I also might suggest we engage in “one sentence shares”—a therapy structure that slows down our interaction enough to reveal emotions, thoughts, and defenses that can otherwise be obscured by long narratives. This format enables precision, presence, and attunement. It also makes our work surprisingly efficient. Ultimately however, it’s the strength of the therapeutic relationship (not just techniques) that promotes healing. It’s a privilege to be trusted with your story and to support you in your process of healing and growth.

insurance & payment

I accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and out-of-pocket (OOP) payments.

Aetna & BCBS: I submit claims to your insurance company on your behalf. I encourage you to contact your insurance to learn more about your plan’s mental health benefits, including any costs for sessions.

OOP: Sessions are 45 minutes long. You’re welcome to use your HSA/FSA card to pay for sessions. Please check with your insurance company to see if you have out-of-network benefits. I can provide receipts or a “superbill” that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. For session rates, please contact me directly.

Effective January 1, 2022, the “No Surprises Act” went into effect, protecting clients from surprise medical billing. This act requires all healthcare providers to offer a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE) to patients who are either uninsured or who choose not to use their insurance for healthcare services. If applicable, your GFE will outline the expected costs for mental health care services. Please note that the GFE won’t include any unforeseen costs that may arise during treatment.

important things

  • I value social justice, equity, and access to quality healthcare and mental health services—but therapy is your space, not mine. You’re welcome to bring in your political beliefs, whatever they may be.

  • As the therapy field changes with new technologies, please be assured that I do not record sessions or utilize Al to summarize session notes. However, many clients use LLMs in our work together.

  • As an independent private practice therapist, I’m (proudly) unaffiliated with any tech-owned or VC-funded therapy startup, platform, or group practice. I avoid platforms (eg. Alma, Headway, Grow Therapy) that prioritize data analytics. Your privacy matters, and I won’t collect or sell your data.

  • 2020 brought my work to a virtual format. I’m happy to meet in an office space (that I can rent by the hour) when there’s interest—but lately, interest seems low. Feel free to let me know where you stand.

  • I work most effectively when communication is clear, concise, and well-paced. Rapid speech, background noise or unusual speech styles may present challenges for me. I share this before we begin so our dynamic establishes and supports high quality work together.

  • My practice is not designed for crisis stabilization or volatile, high-conflict relationships.

  • All initial contact must come from the individual seeking services. Please encourage your child, spouse or employee to reach out to me directly.
